Moleskine Presents
Asian Collection 2023

In 2023, Moleskine will launch its first Moleskine Asian Collection, linking the three neighboring countries of China, Japan, and S.Korea to empower the energy of talents and unearth the deepest Eastern traditions and philosophies through a showcase of current Asian visions.

The concept for the new 2023 Moleskine Collection is fashion as a powerful form of creativity and connection. Moleskine invited 3 extraordinary fashion designers from Asia: Angel Chen, Minju Kim & Kosuke Tsumura, to collaborate. The packaging is designed to have the embroidery of 3 designers’ work, to tell their unique stories.

Background

CULTURE, HERITAGE, & STORYTELLING

At Moleskine, it is believed that the blank pages ready us for the future. It is the space of potential for the one who welcomes new prospects.

For the recent years’ collection, Moleskine has been showcasing talented artists‘ work by uncovering their stories, cultural background, and creative process. They’ve also been partnering with local artists and designers and have emphasized Asian culture & arts. It is believed that strong storytelling is essential to get people emotionally involved and create a connection.

GROWING DEMANDS

We’ve observed increases in sales of themed products from the 2022 Moleskine collections. Most popular of them all are the Sakura Limited Edition featuring textile artist Yuri Himuro and The Year of Tiger collection featuring calligraphy artist Lok Ng.

TARGETED AUDIENCES

People with an elevated sense of design and open to alternatives that have an artistic flavor. Usually refined women of different ages, curious and passionate about cultural themes, characteristics, and peculiarities of other countries.

Featured Artists

ANGEL CHEN

A Shanghai-based designer whose colorful approach to fashion and fusion of Eastern and Western aesthetics, has made her one of the country’s brightest young talents. As a graduate of Central Saint Martins, Angel launched her eponymous label ANGEL CHEN in 2014 and made the Forbes China “30 under 30” shortlist in 2016.
MINJU KIM

Minju Kim is fast becoming a creative force to be reckoned with. Known for her unique imaginative style, combining bold silhouettes with feminine characteristics and an overarching element of joyfulness, in 2020 was named the winner of Netflix’s reality show and fashion design competition, Next in Fashion.
KOSUKE TSUMURA

Professor at Musashino Art University and a lecturer at Tokyo University of the Arts. In 1994 after a decade of working with the top designer in Japan, he launched his private collection Final Home, presented in Paris, London, and Tokyo.

Notebook Design

For each notebook, we invited the artists to create artwork about the new year of the rabbit. Then we took elements from each of their work to embed into the notebook design.

Gift Box Design

Since 3 designers have very distinct styles of artwork, we decided to approach the bundle gift box with the idea of a fashion collage embroidery box.

GIFT DESIGN

As for the inside gifts, we went with applicable patches which you apply onto your own clothing with a hot iron. The collage of each designer’s work is also printed onto a scarf, which could also be used as Furoshiki.
